Public Council Member Nazeer

Nazeer is Huascar's father. When we meet him at age 75, he's had 30 years of political service. Previously, he was a Battle Commander who was severely wounded during a mutinous attempt to invade planet Irix, which violated then Emperor Octivan's Treaty with the Alliance. These events caused two traitorous Field Generals to be executed and convinced Irix to join the Alliance -- strengthening the enemy. His wounds and battle experience haunt Nazeer's dreams in terrifying flashbacks. Because Nazeer had argued against the invasion and almost lost his life, he was honorably discharged and commended.
Nazeer's wife, Jenaive was the surgeon who saved his life. They married two years later and moved far from the capitol city of Zanthum, for a quiet civilian life. Emperor Zorbane's violent coup urged Nazeer into public service to ensure his rational views are represented. As a Public Council Member, he presents the issues of 3 countries to the Emperor.

When Huascar enlisted in the military at the age of 18, Nazeer was opposed -- it echoed his own mistake. However, when Nazeer enlisted, the political landscape was moderate; Huascar's enrollment under Emperor Zorbane and his brutal War Council is another story.
For Huascar, Nazeer fears a fate worse than death -- becoming a weapon of oppression wielded by Zorbane.

Senior Doctor Jenaive

Doctor Jenaive is Huascar's mother. She knew she would enter medical school from an early age, due to her artistic mother, Estifay's dependence on and eventual overdose from drugs.
Jenaive was a highly regarded surgeon, when Battle Commander Nazeer in critical condition was sent to her from the disastrous Irixan invasion. She lead the team of doctors who saved his life. During his recovery the pair fell in love.

While Nazeer became active in the private sector, Jenaive developed more surgical innovations, until she took time off to have the twins, Domina and Huascar. Since twins are exempt from the Single Child policy, they're considered lucky.
Later, Jenaive returned to medical school to change her specialty to rehabilitation for addicts. She become the top Toxicologist in Zanthum, the capitol city where the family moved when Nazeer entered politics. The family secretly supports the Resistance with monies and medical supplies.
She and Nazeer's raised their children with a strong social consciousness, cultural appreciation and a sense of justice.
When Huascar enlisted, Jenaive understood where his compelling plan came from, but felt she had failed him -- having not exposed him to harsh realities, or tempered his pride enough. Yet, there was no denying the likeness between her son and husband. She could see Huascar in the role he described, but feared he'd lose his principals (if not his life) to get there.
As the years passed, Jenaive divided her time between patients and her family, especially buoying up Nazeer's struggles with PTSD. Currently, she's a medical consultant, an educator, and active on special cases.

Chief Ecologist Domina

Domina is Huascar's twin sister. She was born second and is more slight and cerebral than her strapping brother, but they shared a deep bond growing up. Their affluent background, as well as having a sibling in a world of single children, made the twins targets of envy by some. But, their charm and fair-mindedness won them many friends.

When Huascar enlisted at age 18, it felt like a betrayal to Domina, despite his natural talent for the military. Thanks to Emperor Zorbane's emphasis on industrial-military development, the tradition of male and female teens attending different classes meant that at least half of Huascar's schooling had been to make him a soldier. The fact that he enjoyed it was abhorrent to Domina and his plan to affect change from within the system seemed naive.
Three years after he enlisted, Domina was stung by a venomous crustacean on the surface of Darskov. Huascar visited her in the hospital, but acted conflicted, almost drugged. This goaded her to research military training, but she found only scattered bits of information over the years. Nevertheless, she shared her findings with the Resistance, which would then instigate change through civil unrest. Her three-year long relationship with Crinon, another field scientist, whom she grew to love, was ruined by her obsession with finding the truth. This made her bitter and scornful of Huascar.
Domina made many important scientific discoveries -- the potential of algae to filter out water-borne pollution is one, and when her health began to fray, she let others gather samples while she mastered lab analyses. Eventually, she became Chief Ecologist, who reports to Science Chancellor Estance. Unfortunately, Emperor Zorbane has largely bankrupted the Science Branch's Conservation and Clean-Up departments. So Domina, occasionally goes rogue in "funds obtainment." Meanwhile, she's involved with the Resistance. The impending eco-system collapse and personal heartbreak compel her.
