Though I've always loved to read and write and earned a BA in English (with a minor in Fine Arts), I was on a writing hiatus, when I began Shamanic training with the Four Winds Society in 2009. It unexpectedly opened my creative floodgates and the flow continued, as I progressed with the training. In 2013 I was certified as an Energy Healer. www.yogishaman.net
My archetypes, especially, the Lord of the Underworld (the Incan Emperor, Huascar), began to tell me stories in animation. So, for the first couple of years, Convergence was an animated screenplay.
After several nudges from my cherished writers' group, I changed it into a novel. And boom! In prose form, new dimensions expanded -- I could get inside characters' heads and describe my universe how I wanted. My project became more rich and rewarding. Meanwhile, my love of illustrating never waned, as you can see.
I discovered a new delight, in crafting language to resonate with lived-in experiences. Everyone has a backstory; old wounds, blind spots, as well as strengths. In addition, my characters are products of their culture and times -- whether they support the status quo or not. All beings emerged from ecosystems.
In 10 years, I finished Convergence Book 1, Think Big, but after a few rejections, decided to take the advice that I kept hearing at Sci-Fi and Fantasy conferences. It goes like this: get shorter works published before pitching my epic trilogy, because publishers won't gamble on a large work from an unknown author.
