The Neethrupi
The oldest sentient race in the Lokivar sector, the Neethrupi are the Alliance founders. On their home world of Metta -- the 5th planet in the Ladhara System, they have always been tree dwellers. The Neethrupi work as mated pairs -- their intimate connection facilitates telepathy. Additionally, they use crystals to enhance their abilities.
Having long-since harmonized with their eco-system, the Neethrupi can discern and manipulate energy with their second set of eyes, evolved only for that purpose. All life forms are of infinite fascination to them and their hunger for knowledge is legendary.
The Neethrupi desire to teach others how to develop a society with minimal harm to their planet. Their first lessons were thousands of years ago with the Koru, their continental neighbors. The youngest people in the sector, the Koru were, and still are grateful to their teachers.
More recently, other people have resisted Neethrupi influence. The Irixians, from the 3rd planet in the Ladhara System, were headstrong and isolationist. Only after the Darskovian Empire's failed invasion of Irix were the Irixians willing to join the Alliance -- to defend against their common enemy. Even more disastrous was the Neethrupi contact with the Darskovians several Emperors ago. After friendly overtures, the Neethrupi pointed out the oncoming ecological disasters which were the direct result of pollution and over-use of Darskov's resources. They offered instruction in healing their imperiled world.
Fresh from their first battle with the trespassing Irixians (who weren't yet in the Alliance), the Darskovians didn't appreciate the advice. Though many were intrigued by the advanced race, their pride was wounded and guilt and fear, triggered. While Emperor Gortan considered the Neethrupi offer, he was overthrown by Razik, who was an Homeland General. After some hasty industrial innovations and crack-downs on those supporting the Neethrupi message, Emperor Razik commenced hostilities with the Alliance.

The Koru
The temperamental, tri-gendered Koru are the shortest-lived and youngest race in the sector. From the cool plains of Metta, the Koru are nimble in body and mind. Since the Neethrupi minimize their cultural interference, Koru monarchies and courts still govern their home countries. It's been centuries since their last conflict between kingdoms.
The Koru emphasize tradition, lineage and story-telling in their culture. Commoners rarely leave their planet, favoring "practical" pursuits. But, a growing number of royalty are deciding to serve the Alliance in space. Some ornery Irixians suspect that boredom is their true motive.
Whereas society pressures courtly males and females to continue their line on Metta, the infertile kika gender are encouraged to utilize their exceptional mental acuity and refined sensibilities however they choose -- such freedom is part of their special caste. Intensely curious and creativite, many kika find the slow pace of progress at home stultifying. They're more likely to enroll in Alliance to become spacers. Working closely with the Neethrupi, whom they hold in almost superstitious awe, the Koru make excellent pilots and reliable soldiers, staff and mid-rank decision makers.

The Irixians
Strong-willed and passionate Irixians hale from a sparsely populated desert planet, with minimal ice-caps and rain. They are a matriarchal people with a low birth-rate -- children and mothers historically receive the best possible care. A rich spiritual tradition colors their everyday existence, along with a deep sense of honor and pride.
The Irixians' late membership the Alliance is a reflection of their general mistrust of others. Ever since they joined and their first wave of spacers met the required education about foreign cultures, intolerance has been an issue among their ranks. On their home world, war still breaks out over new vrs. old ideas and tribal territories. Yet, homesickness is a serious ailment among Irixian spacers, remediated by frequent leave as a concession of Alliance membership.
To challenge their inflexible attitudes, the Neethrupi frequently pair Irixians with the complimentary, but whimsical Koru. Prized for their leadership, great endurance and incisive piloting skills, Irixians are fierce warriors. Justice is their highest principal and they have a poetic concept of revenge or achieving Gent, as it is called.
