This is Darskov, home of the Darskovian Empire, before pollution generated by the Modern Era's development clouded the skies and poisoned waterways and soil. The increased toxicity of the surface and weather destabilization caused Emperor Drinivan to force everyone into underground cities, when General Huascar's parents were young. Many still grieve their constrained access to the surface -- they must use pollution masks and eye shields. Above ground, lifeforms are nearing extinction.
Darskov is the only inhabitable planet in the Torivan System -- driving the search for new worlds -- and is the third world orbiting Mondikar, the primary star in the binary system. Millions of years ago, two comets collided and debris rained down on the planet, turning what used to be an Earth-like variety of temperature zones into a predominantly cold environment. Only rugged flora and fauna survived the disaster. The surface is scarred with craters, and asteroids still encircle Darskov in the Modern Era -- they are used as training grounds for military pilots.
Its people were in early stages of development during the Catastrophe; many died. Since much of their staples became extinct, the Darskovians banded together and become nocturnal, to take advantage of sleeping animals. Nighttime hunting lead to another key trait -- the Change undergone by males upon reaching young adulthood; their irises enlarge to fill the whole opening between their eyelids, making their night vision superior to females and signifying readiness to provide for the clan.
Rubble from the Catastrophe also birthed a fourth moon, Niveera. It is the moon on the right in the picture, while Zenaire is pink, Big Sister Drimilla is yellow and Little Sister, Parvay circles her. Darskovians of old had spiritual ties to the moons, as aids in their night activities and predictors of natural events. In the Modern Era, most still refer to their moons as the Four Sisters, or the Four.
This is Yamma, the fourth planet in the huge, binary Narthag System, which the Empire is starting to explore. It's a small, unstable world ill suited for Darskovians, whose primitive life evolved after the system's twin stars became Red Dwarfs. It's also speculated that the planet's electro-magnetic fluctuations and very active mantel may also be a new development.
The Darskovian Empire races against the Alliance to colonize Astovar and Traenant, the unclaimed Narthag System's inhabitable planets. With this aim, Field General Huascar ordered the first manned exploration of Yamma, searching for mineral fuel sources, which, if obtained, could ease further missions in the system and advance their space-faring technology. But, during their first foray on the alien world, Huascar's Science Team met with unforeseen disaster, that catalyses further woes and conflict with the Alliance.
